Hiking is one activity that makes a person fit and healthy. Aside from the fact that it is a fun-filled activity, it is a wonderful opportunity to roam around and be aware of the surroundings. Since hiking is also a form of adventure, I would like to share some tips for hikers. These tips for hikers are useful especially for those who just begun using hiking as a form of exercise and a hobby.

First, decide on a place to go, how to get there and how to get home, the number going and the supplies needed. This is essential to avoid uncompromising situations that will prevent hikers to meet their goals during the activity.

Second, walk on left side of highway facing approaching vehicles and in single file. The purpose of this tip is to prevent untoward accidents to happen.

Third, there is a need to wear comfortable shoes. Obviously, the activity needs an opportunity and freedom to move comfortably and actively.

Fourth, stay with group and obey instructions of the leader. Do not go off planned route into strange swamps, woods or fields. This would prevent anyone to be lost during the hiking activity.

Fifth, all hikers must stay away from the bank of swiftly moving water and places where there might be quicksand. Again, your safety is a primary concern.

Sixth, it is essential to watch out for snakes and other deadly insects and poisonous vegetation.

Seventh, it is wise to get off highways when resting.

And finally, plan to return before dark and be sure you know how to get back home.

The topics related to men’s fitness are varied but sleeping is one of the most sensitive issues. For some people, proper sleeping habit is directly associated with losing weight. Others believe that sleeping at least eight hours every night is ideal. But the outstanding consensus is that a healthy and restful sleep makes a person on top condition. Now, let’s talk about the benefits of sleeping in relation to gaining the perfect figure.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one asking this question. Many people have been bombarded with this news and with majority of people today suffering from obesity or are simply overweight, it’s no wonder that they would be intrigued about this. To find out the truth about this, let’s get down to the core of why and how sleeping can possibly help you lose weight.

When it comes to sleeping, it is as essential as exercise when it comes to losing weight. Your bodies regenerate after a hectic day when you go to sleep. Obviously, the more efficient your body system works, the more efficient it is when it comes to digesting and metabolizing your food. In the field of men’s fitness, sleeping is one factor to achieve a healthy body.

Another benefit that it does to our body is it curbs down the hunger that we feel when we wake up. You can experiment on this and notice that your body will not crave so much food or you will less likely overeat the next day after a good night’s rest. Most of the time, we feel stressed when we lack sleep, which leads us to overeat the next day.

Stressful days come to light when we ignore restful sleep and go on with our busy day. But in most cases, people who experience stress eat a lot in an effort to boost energy level or highlight their hectic schedule. But for men’s fitness, healthy sleeping habit is essential. Having less hours of sleep and eventual indulgence of too much food must be avoided.

In addition to that, it helps regulate our hormones. The amount of hormones our brain releases can be regulated through proper sleep. This is the same hormone that influences your hunger and cravings the next day. Getting less sleep means that your hormones get warped, thus affecting your appetite and contributing to unstable eating patterns. Once an individual’s eating habit is distorted, the feeling of feeling hungry all the time suggests over-eating which results to tremendous weight gain.

If you really want to get rid of those excess pounds, it would help if you get enough sleep on a regular basis. Besides, what else is there to lose aside from unwanted fats? Getting enough hours of sleep is not only ideal; it is one way to look young and stunning. I suggest reading blogs that share the benefits of proper sleeping habit with personal testimonies that are truly inspiring.

Men’s Fitness websites are on the run to post secrets on having the perfect shape. There are thousands of bloggers who share tips on getting fit. Others share their rigid fitness regimen that gave them a mind-blowing figure. But one of the best solutions to curb unwanted fat is peanut butter. That’s according to a few fitness buffs in the Internet.

Based on online research, peanut butter can help you lose weight. Does it sounds too good to be true? Well, studies do show that peanut butter contributes to weight loss. I know that most people, including yours truly, think of the word “fats” when we first hear “peanut butter,” so how can it possibly help you shed off pounds?

Well, the truth is, yes, it does contain fats, but it is not the kind of fat that makes you, well, fat. Peanut butter fats are made up of healthy fatty acids that help you shed extra weight by curbing down the cholesterol found in your system. Thus, incorporating peanut butter in your daily intake means that you are helping yourself lose weight.

Other than that, peanut butter lovers will attest to the fact that peanut butter does do wonders when it comes to a person’s diet. For men who loves to eat but loathes having extra fat, it is the perfect food product to pair with bread. After all, men’s fitness must be in line with the idea of healthy diet. There are several reasons for this; for one thing, it increases your metabolism. You can experience a great improvement in your metabolic rate when you make sure to eat peanut butter daily. Another benefit that it provides would be that it satiates you easily. This means that eating peanut butter regularly eventually assists in lowering down and even eliminating your cravings for food. With all those great benefits, who wouldn’t want to try it out?

Eating peanut butter and at the same time exercising can do great for your physique. It helps you get one step closer to your ultimate or ideal weight and size. So, why not enjoy a tablespoon or two of this delicious treat every day and see the results for yourself?

That said it is advisable for peanut butter lovers to enjoy the food once in a while. For those who are avoiding peanut butter, thinking that it has tons of unwanted fat elements are now free to indulge a bite of bread with peanut butter.

For men’s fitness, eating peanut butter is better than eating lots of food chain products. I like the idea that men should enjoy eating healthy food than neglect their quest to gain top condition. Peanut butter may be a kind of snacks that endear women, but men are also advised to enjoy it. That way, eating the right food is not only achieved, living a fun lifestyle is made possible.

Many people aim to achieve eye-catching shape and following rigid workout regimen are part of the process. But there are easy ways to get rid of excess fat and attain lithe figure. Since losing weight for most people has become an endless struggle, knowing the best ways to lose weight is advisable. You might not shed 10 pounds overnight, but it is possible to lose weight even with just a little effort and patience. Here are five ways that you can get rid of surplus fat easily and maintain men’s fitness.

First, cut down intake on foods rich in carbohydrate. Carbohydrate is essential in our bodies, but too much will turn it into love handles and a bulging belly. Watch your intake of pasta, bread and rice or anything that might have high starch content. Second, substitute those fat inducing foods with veggies. Eating at least four servings of greens will help you cut down your weight in no time. Third, instead of carbohydrates, load up on protein. By 6 pm, your body will have processed most of the protein it has in storage. Protein is a great muscle builder so eat chicken and beef in your meals. Fourth, not all fat is bad for you, so dig into food that contains natural fat. Some examples of food with good fats include nuts and avocado. These only turn into unwanted fat when it is mixed with carbohydrates.

The next way to get rid of unwanted fat is to avoid processed food as much as possible. Prepare your own meals and don’t be tempted to buy those pre-packed lunches or meals. Many bloggers support the idea that eating too much processed food is not good for the body. For men’s fitness goals to be reached, we should always avoid processed food.

Following these tips can help you generate that body you have always been hoping for. Of course, it would be perfect if you couple it with exercise and determination, to guarantee that you will get that healthy and perfect body in no time. In most cases, following at least an hour of scheduled exercise activity is a good start. The determination to achieve a healthy body and top condition inspires men and women alike to apply discipline and prudence in their choices of food and fitness regimen.

We would like to invite people or media to witnesses the Marcel Antonio art work this coming Feb 6 2012 6pm for the opening for lunching on cocktail.V.I.S. de Veyra joins Antonio in this exhibit with fourteen new poems printed in the exhibition catalogue.

In July of 2010, the poet V.I.S. de Veyra posted a blog essay on the art of Marcel Antonio titled “Blue Funk’d Stories: The Expanding Art of Marcel Antonio” (read at http://partycrashingangle.blogspot.com/2010/07/blue-funked-silent-stories-expanding_26.html) and coined the phrase-tag Blue Funk Erotica for Antonio’s art. De Veyra described Blue Funk Erotica as 1) unsmiling faces-derived figurative drama (primarily portraiture, then), 2) replete of appropriations or art-historical quotes, 3) suggestive (but only suggestive) of a narrative, 4) quasi-rebellious towards rigid allusions and painting titles’ guidance, 5) unpainterly expressionist, 6) of an in-a-trance mood as against a happy one, and 7) conscriptive of the painting viewer as peeper. “This erotica should stay around and keep us entranced,” the poet-critic wrote, “being not so much one that tickles the groin as a kind that promotes the understanding that every face, gesture, object, color, and shape is a secret sex object and clandestine true story waiting to be told.” But also debunking a previous simplistic tag on Antonio’s art as “narrative expressionist,” de Veyra wrote: “In Antonio’s case, his blue funkism’s ‘de-expression’, or ‘dis-expression’ and narrative confusion through the mannerisms of narrative imagery and titling, seems to be a produce of a Russian Formalist narrative bent to ‘defamiliarize’ images and shapes towards a higher enigma. Thus his refusal to ‘express’.”

The abovementioned blog started a dialogue between Antonio’s art as well as intent (of unintent) and de Veyra’s reading, culminating in a late-2011 collection titled “Desire, Ennui, Anxiety” which shall be shown this coming Feb 6 to 25 at the Yuchengco Museum.

This title for Antonio’s new series does not so much signal a change in his art’s direction as clarify where de Veyra’s reading is right and where it needs to be tweaked. For instance, while de Veyra opts for a Barthesian “variety of narrative possibilities,” Antonio’s pragmatic knowledge of his audience allows/welcomes two basic approaches to his art.

The one approach favours rigid symbolist readings, especially as Antonio is himself attracted to the “monumental” (Antonio’s term) figure common among utopian-art compositions (of Wagnerian glorifications, classical idealism, Nazi art, Stalinist totalitarian art, socialist realism, etc.) as well as in advertising art or the idealizations of soft porn.

But, for the other approach, Antonio acknowledges that de Veyra is right about his—Antonio’s—own efforts to frustrate, so to speak, all symbolist and narrative approaches, via experimentations with juxtapositions/relations and eclectic allusions. These experimentations, appropriations, and art-history quotes result in a dehumanized atmosphere, involving such stuff as machine esthetics and the usual facial expressions of ennui and boredom, all moving towards Antonio’s intended postmodernist multiplicity of meanings. But the final result on each single canvas is an invite to a pseudo-narrative half-aware of this pseudo-ness, welcoming while parodying the various cultural and moral significations possible to professional and popular semiotics.

In this sense, Antonio’s art would be self-described as anxious about the unknown, desirous of knowledge as a matter of course but likewise celebrating the ennui of knowledge’s elusivity, even the charm of that ennui itself alone. Ennui as both springboard and object of desire, then, visually fulfilled or illustrated on an Antonio-esque drama field.

A final stamp to this anti-narrative effort to “recover the sensation of life” (Victor Shklovsky) is the artist’s devotion to the coloration of Diego Velázquez or Chagall as well as the latent abstract geometrics beneath all his pseudo-narrative stagings.

Now on its sixth year, the Ateneo de Manila University Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies and Confucius Institute once again stage the Spring Film Festival.

This year, through the auspices of the Cultural Office of the People’s Republic of China, the festival features six films that cater to different age groups and audiences. Our leading film, Ocean Heaven, features Jet Li in a family drama. In the other films, audiences will be treated to a comedy about going home for Chinese New Year, a wedding that sets off the urban/rural debate, an animated film about saving our environment, and the sight of Chow Yun-fat playing the role of Confucius.

Unlike previous years when a minimal admission fee was charged, this year’s festival will be free admission to the public. Schools are welcome to bring their students for block screenings on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here are the synopses of the featured films:

Ocean Heaven – Ocean Heaven is a family drama which features a father- Sam Wang (played by Jet Li), who is solely taking care of his autistic child- Dafu. Wang finds out that he has liver cancer and has a few days to live. Not only does Wang have to cope with his own suffering and impending death, he also has to deal with the heartache of leaving Dafu with no immediate family. This heartwarming film shows the challenges of being a single parent and how parents, even on their last days, would do anything just to ensure the safety and happiness of their children.

Fans of Jet Li will definitely be surprised to see him in this non-Kungfu movie; this role won him the 2010 Wen Zhang Best Actor Award. The movie was also recognized by the Shanghai Media Awards, CCTV Movie Channel Media Awards 2010 and Golden Goblet Award. In July 2011, Li even named one of his charity projects as Ocean Heaven Project to help children with autism, celebral palsy and other disorders.

Lost on Journey- A comedy film narrating Li Chenggong’s travel home, as he endures a series of bad luck just to celebrate New Year’s Eve with his family. Li hops from a plane, to a train, to a bus, and to a boat in the desire to be with his relatives during the most important event of the year. And along the way, he meets a stranger, Niu Geng, who later helps him discover something important about himself and the goodness of other people. This movie is a funny presentation of how a stroke of bad luck brought two different worlds together.

Country Wedding- tells a story of a couple who is about to get married. With their respective families getting so excited, their parents started to meddle with their wedding preparations. The bride’s mother insists on holding the wedding at a ritzy hotel in Beijing Central, the groom’s father, being the director of a cooperative in a rural village, feels indebted to the community, and wants to share the wedding to the whole village. The couple gets caught in between conflicting would-be in-laws. This film is a funny portrayal of the clash of cultures between the city and country side.

Confucius – Confucius, known as the “Great Sage”, lived during the time when China’s dynasties were in chaos and engulfed by corruption and greed. He strongly believed that ethics and education will put all things to order. His wisdom was sought by different dynasty leaders but only to be abandoned after he dutifully served his purpose. Not only does he struggle with his illness and impending death, Wong constantly worries about his son who’ll soon be left behind with no immediate family member to look after him.
A multi-awarded winning, action-historical movie, Bodyguards and Assassins tells one of China’s great tales from a new perspective. While Hong Kong was kept under the British rule in 1905, Sun Yat-Sen was sent to unify leaders to bring down the corrupt Qing Dynasty. As a result, ruler of the dynasty, Dowager Cixi, wanted him killed. The Chinese people, including businessman Li Yutang, knew that protecting their leader meant safeguarding China’s last hope for liberation. He gathers commoners-a tofu vendor, rickshaw pullers, a beggar, and an orphan, to serve as bodyguards to Sun Yat-Sen and China’s consequent freedom.

King of Milu Deer, China’s highest grossing and first 3D animated movie, focuses on environmental protection. But Tzan discovers the beauty of the Labyrinth Mountain and soon befriends Yoyo. Together, the two decide to save the wildlife and natural resources of the Labyrinth Mountain.

Many individuals aspiring perfect shape excuse themselves of acquiring rigid training by admitting that they needed eight hours of sleep every night. But fitness model and strength coach, Marc Megna did the opposite. With his exactness and determination, he was able to prove that lack of sleep is no longer an excuse to stop high performance training.

The well-known strength coach to NFL athletes at Bommarito Performance Systems in Aventura, Florida worked on a hectic timetable. The earliest time he wakes up is around 3:45 in the morning and finish work out until seven in the evening. Since he has little time to spend a break per session, we expect that he is able to maximize time for his rigid exercise. In that sense, he has only less time to sleep, a far cry of the eight-hour sleep required from hard-training sports enthusiasts to maintain vital achievement. But he was able to become accustomed of the satiation. Here are his secrets for your guidance.

First, shorten your workout each men’s fitness activity. It is essential to cut work out hours to recompense lack of sleep. This can be done by sticking to low workout methods, meaning the application of less strenuous training. It has been proven that lighter exercise and reduced workout sessions help you achieve lithe figure. Besides, less hours of sleep makes it more difficult to gain focus so light training is sensible. Second, train as soon as possible. The inability to work-out on time results to prolonged exercise which requires more time for sleeping. As Megna recommended, it is good to avoid watching television, forceful music, insignificant phone calls and text messaging before bed time. Third, try to be consistent. An example of this guide is to get up and go to bed at the same hour for each day. Normally, the body adapts to any routine when done consistently.

Megna also recommends skipping the hard workout regimen in achieving men’s fitness. To maintain stamina and proper pacing, highly technical lifting and strenuous moves must be avoided. So, power cleans and snatches and other backbreaking procedure does not count. This is a wise guide since sleepy persons who need to sleep should only accomplish basic lifts completed at a slower pace. In addition, strengthening your nutrition is highly recommended. Eating nutritious food is a must. This is important to maintain good health and achieve optimum level of energy. Megna also recommends drinking lots of water to stay hydrated.

Despite lack of sleep, fitness models and athletes can perform their fitness regimen at the right pacing. Men’s fitness is not hard to achieve and discipline is the number key to be successful.

Rooted from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit, yoga is a term which means “union”. The massive state of India is the place where the form of rejuvenation and physical relief is located and it fundamentally meant the union of mind, body and spirit. The main purpose of the exercise is to alleviate stress and attain a healthy perspective in life, hence to facilitate men’s fitness. Since men are always overwhelmed with myriad activities which include household chores, work-related tasks and financial setbacks, yoga is one of the answers to curb stressful days.

In essence, yoga is the art of creating balance in the body by means of strength and flexibility development. The achievement of physical strength and balance must correspond to the poses needed, which are not usually awkward and painful. In other words, using simple yoga techniques is possible to reap tremendous benefits.

It is possible to maintain a healthy mind and body through yoga. According to Tara Stiles, author of StralaYoga.com, there are hundreds of benefits provided by using proper yoga techniques. Doctors usually prescribe pills to enhance the mood of their patients but in reality it has fewer benefits compared with yoga exercise. As a result, it has become a doctor-approved way of emotional disorder treatment. The finding has been confirmed by a group of intellectual persons from Boston University School of Medicine who conducted the latest research on the benefits of yoga. Another study by Australian research professionals supports the premise that proper breathing exercises prevent extreme stress-related illness.

For enhanced training, beginners must find inspiration to start applying the popular physical exercise. Although it is entirely overwhelming to try yoga techniques, trying out a DVD at home and enrolling in a fitness school are effective start-up activities. The secret of inspired application of asana or yoga techniques is to keep on doing it and eventually feel good and refreshed after a hard day’s work.

Some people also try to enhance their breathing through nostril breathing exercises. This is not a hard practice since most men and women need proper breathing before indulging into heavy physical activities. It can be done by closing off one nostril and breathe in form the other side, hold for a four-second beat, exhale and repeat the other part. The method can be repeated within three-to-five minutes.

Men’s fitness and stress busting has become a way of life for many individuals. But for some people who find it hard and awkward, they should think twice before dropping off the secret of relieving stress. In fact, five minutes of meditation is one way to manage stress and feel better after a tiring day. Hence, trying a swift breathing exercise at home is highly recommended.
